Looking forward to the discussion of Yesteryear. I read it and the whole time I was reading it I kept thinking “this woman hates being a mother and a wife” and it made me wonder how many people in the tradwife circles actually hate their lives but can’t say it.
Lol all things that help me escape, fantasy in all forms, cozy mysteries, stories about libraries and bookshops. I used to read a lot of non-fiction and personal growth, but generally I'm much happier reading fiction again.
I am also excited for the Yesteryear discussion and am slowly making progress on Roots. My recent reads have been I See You’ve Called in Dead, The Calamity Club, Five Star Weekend (still need to watch the series), and Every Summer After.
I love these recommendations- thank you. I'm currently reading Fully Alive while my husband is working his way through Aristotle's Ethics, so I like this recommendation with the vice and virtue to add to the mix.
I read quote a bit this month. My favorite recent read was Katabasis, which fits nicely with the vive and virtue reads.
Second favorite was David Sedaris's newest book. I know he's not for everyone, but I find him hilarious and someone who does some honest self-reflection. And- encourages me to reflect
I'm delighted to hear you visited Medora! I'm a born and raised North Dakotan and although I live out of state now, I will tell anyone who will listen how underrated ND is. I grew up going to Medora most summers and can't wait to get back and visit the new TR Presidential Library.
Looking forward to your conversation on Yesteryear as it is at the top of my books for the year. I picked up the first two Emma Lion journals from Powell's on my vacation to Oregon last week. I think my favorite summer read so far is Dolly All the Time by Annabel Monaghan. I think it may be her best book or tied with Nora Goes Off Script.
I will be interested to see what you think of Night Watch. I so badly wanted to like it and parts of it I absolutely did but overall it was one of my lowest rated books last year!
I just finished On Witness and Respair, which is a collection of essays by Jessmyn Ward. I usually can't get through essays, but these were short enough and poignant enough that I finished the whole collection before the book was due back at the library.
I am currently reading The Way by Cary Groner. It is a post-apocalyptic novel, which I don't usually read, but I am enjoying this one. It might even have a positive ending. (Don't tell me if you know!).
I am also lucky enough to have snagged an Advanced Reader's Copy of Kristin Kobes Du Mez's forthcoming book, Live Laugh Love. I am tearing through it. It is much easier for this non-evangelical to understand than Jesus and John Wayne. And tons of interesting historical research. So far, I highly recommend.
